ABOUT
A small studio, deliberately.
Epoch Digital Solutions is a software studio based in Sevenoaks, Kent. It’s run by Jack Johnson, a Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Exeter, who builds digital products for owner-managed businesses.
We take on a handful of fixed-scope projects at a time. We agree what’s being built, what it costs and when it lands before any code is written, then deliver that. If a project needs a skill we don’t have in-house, we say so rather than stretch to cover it.
What that gives you is a direct working relationship: you talk to the person doing the work, not a layer of account management. For a small business spending real money on software, that’s usually what matters.

How an engagement works
-
01
Scope
We work out what you actually need, write it down, and agree a fixed price and a date against it. If the answer is “you don’t need software for this”, we say so.
-
02
Build
You get a link to follow progress and a person to ask, not a ticket queue. Anything that changes the agreed scope is priced before it happens, not after.
-
03
Hand over
You get the code, the hosting and the accounts in your own name, plus a walkthrough. Nothing is locked to us, and ongoing support is optional rather than assumed.
SELECTED WORK
What we’ve built.
A shipped iOS app, two client sites you can visit, and an advisory engagement — the studio’s work to date.
Natural language in, structured data out
LifeLog
A personal tracking app that turns plain sentences — “ran 5k, spent £12 on lunch, read for an hour” — into structured, searchable records, using a language model to do the parsing. Built end to end as sole developer: data model, parsing, iOS app and backend. Live on the App Store.

Box Chef
An ordering site for a bespoke meal-prep kitchen. Customers build a prepaid package, record allergies and medical dietary requirements once, and watch the price update as they go. Completed orders route to the kitchen for confirmation.

Il Pirondel
A family vineyard that handled visit enquiries by phone and email. We replaced that with online booking for tastings and vineyard visits, so availability and dates live on the site instead of in an inbox.

5PA Architects
A technical architecture practice with years of project files that were slow to search. We ran a workflow diagnostic and scoped an internal archive-search tool. This engagement is advisory — the build is a costed proposal, not yet started.
Advisory engagement
CAPABILITIES
What we take on.
Four things we do repeatedly. Most engagements combine two or three of them — a site with an ordering flow behind it, or a diagnostic that turns into a build.
Websites & ordering systems
Marketing and transactional sites — booking, ordering, prepaid credit, payments where a project needs them. Built to load quickly, to rank, and to be edited without a developer on call.
Box Chef and Il Pirondel are both this.
iOS apps
Native iOS apps from data model through to App Store review and release, built and shipped solo. Includes the unglamorous parts: subscriptions, review rejections, and the backend behind the app.
LifeLog is the current example.
AI features
Putting language models to work on one specific job — turning messy input into clean data, drafting, classifying — rather than bolting a chatbot onto a page. Scoped so you know what it costs to run.
LifeLog’s entry parser is built this way.
Advisory & diagnostics
Shorter engagements: looking at how work actually moves through a business, finding where it stalls, and scoping what should — and shouldn’t — be built. Ends in a written recommendation and a costed option.
The 5PA engagement is this.
CONTACT
Start a
conversation.
If you have a project with a defined shape — you know roughly what needs building — send a few lines about it. You’ll hear back from the person who’d do the work, usually within a couple of working days.
A rough scope, a rough timeline and a budget range are enough to start. If you’re not sure yet what you need, say that instead — that’s a normal way to begin.
